Hand Crafted Primitive Decorative Yellow Painted Wooden Truck
STP Haiti
Jacmel
Jesus Seul
VERY GOOD CONDITION
This truck is definitely meant to be a decorative piece of primitive artwork, as it's too roughly made to be a toy.
The bright yellow hand made truck, with its festive red, white, green, and blue flowers, zigzags, and stripes, creates a wonderful naive art piece of what we assume is a vegetable truck. The wooden wheels that easily turn are painted black with a red rim and yellow hubcaps.
The writing on the truck - STP Haiti on the back bumper - Jesus Seul (Jesus Only) at the top in back - and Jacmel on the front above the windshield hole - tell the story of this truck. Based on everything we were able to research, we are putting a 2010 or 2011 date on this vehicle.
STP stands for "Serving The Purpose", a Mission Emphasis for the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Jacmel is a city in southern Haiti, which was badly damaged by the major 2010 earthquake in Haiti and has also felt the force of a barrange of hurricanes over the years. I was not able to determine exactly how this truck is connected to this mission effort.
Perhaps it was a "Thank You" gift from a Haitian craftsman to one of the church group volunteers who came to help the survivors of the earthquake destruction.
The truck is 10 1/2 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 9 inches tall.
As the photos show, this truck does not stand exactly square, giving it a jalopy look. There is some paint loss where the back wheels have rubbed against the body, and a few places where the yellow paint was not applied thickly enough, but otherwise it appears to be in excellent condition.
